Sacrifice, Redemption, Victory, and Triumph. These central themes are the embodiment of the Christian faith and are all symbolized in the Agnus Dei. Christ is our Passover Lamb. Innocent, yet through the sacrificial shedding of blood, He declares victory over sin and death.

Depictions of Christ as the Lamb of God (John 1:29) first emerged as early as the 6th century. They appeared in mosaics and flourished throughout early Christian and Byzantine art motifs. Throughout the Middle Ages, the common depictions of the Agnus Dei as a haloed lamb holding a banner standard or cross were popularized in church mosaics, sculptures, stained glass, alters, and paintings.

This pin design of the Agnus Dei carries that tradition forward. The design itself was inspired by a stained glass window found in a humble reformed presbyterian church, built in 1860 in Chamonix, France. The builders believed in faith that, over the next hundreds and thousands of years, Christians would need a place to worship the Living God.

The Agnus Dei is the ultimate example of Christ’s divine strength through humility.
