St. Michael Vanquishes Satan

Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back,  but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.

Small in size, but monumental in meaning. At Munich’s St. Michael’s Church (Michaelskirche), a bronze statue of the Archangel Michael slaying the devil has adorned the entrance since 1588. Originally created for Duke Wilhelm V of Bavaria as a bold public symbol of faith and resilience during a time of religious upheaval, this statue embodies the triumph of good over darkness and the defense of truth.

This pin’s design was based on a rare 16th/early 17th-century engraving of the statue by Hubert Gerhard. Our pin faithfully recreates the dynamic composition from the original engraving and statue. Michael is shown as the winged victor, triumphant with a spear raised high, foot planted firmly on the defeated enemy.
